My first salary

1st June 2001, was a most lucky day as it was the first day of my Job at a manufacturing unit near Mysore & with great difficulty I got this job. My main goal was to work hard, as this would decide my fate and careerJ. Days passed by and after a period of 5 months, during Diwali time, I got a call from my manager. “He said Management is happy with your work and would like to pay you Rs 10,000 and now on my monthly pay would be Rs 1500”. Immediately I shouted Hurray.......my first earning and I am capable of earning something for my living. Obviously, the amount is not huge money for this current generation. From this, I learn’t hard work

Hard work brings its own reward...This made me least bothered as to what I was earning. My mentor often said that think about your work, teaching new things helps you in earning a living for life. Once you have the technology, patience, backed by all your hard work, money will come looking for you.
Ha!! I forgot to tell you about my first earning. When I handed over that amount to my parents, tears flowed off their eyes and I could feel the happiness and that hug from my sister saying, Yes man...You can achieve more in your life and this is the first step.

Days passed by and after 6 months I again got good news of salary increment. Hey guys, at this point of time, it’s worth mentioning about my manager, Mr.NVR and my SAP Guru Mr.SS. The interest they showed on me...and also my interest in learning the new technology, made me learn the subject within very less time frame.

My manager taught me, what exactly a hard work is, He taught me communication skills, how to be clear in ones thought, which was one of the factor for me to come up in my life. In the same way, My SAP guru's way of training me on SAP...How to tackle the situation...what things to keep in mind before solving the problem..All these were like bibles to me for my career. Earlier, I had my friend who guided me to escape from thorns to uplift my career. Now I have these 2 people who have added some value in me and I am really thankful to god for giving me a chance to work for these people.

I was in this firm for almost 3.5 years and by the time I left the company, I was earning almost 10K which was really a good amount for me (comparatively very less than compared to what people earn in IT Industry). By this time, I know, I had earned very less in terms of monetary factor, but I was a very rich in terms of experience and technology. I know, it was too hard to leave a company, which had given me shelter for working, best colleagues to work with. But after all in my long journey called "CAREER", I met lot of people and only a few of them will really remember. Not to mention, the good friend circle I had developed within and outside the industry.

One such person I still respect in my life is a girl, 6 yrs younger to me, who was at that time, our company's auditor and the main person behind me to try out my luck in IT industry and then my Journey started towards Bangalore.

My First job

I was wondering how everyone has time to write blogs, even in their busy schedule. Then when i spoke to a couple of my close friends and my cousins about the art of writing blogs, i realised its nothing but you putting your thoughts in simple english.Since this is my first blog, I feel it should be something simple and about an interesting phase of my life. here it is..Let me write about my experience in landing in my first job.

10 th Sept 2000, was a golden day in my life, when my friend called me and said "Congrats kano, you have cleared your exams and also for completing your MCA". I was just discussing with my parents as to how fast the days have passed by and all. Till then, I thought, I was the happiest man in this earth and everything can be achieved easily. Days passed by, my hopes of landing in a good job went on vanishing. At this point, i felt, yes, there are better days ahead of me and took thing casually Very soon I realized that my guess or thinking was wrong. The reason being "Y2K" factor ( one of the nightmare for IT Prof'nals during that time) and all companies had the same saying " NO VACANCY".

By then it was the month of February 2001, when i had lost all hopes of getting into an IT company and I felt I was at the dead end of the road. Here, i feel, I need to mention about the Moral support from my parents and my dear little sister. It was just because of their support ,love and their trust on me, I still had the hope that "YES, I will do it one fine day. I will prove that I will stand on my legs and support my family".

I was feeling ashamed for myself, for , each weekend I go and ask my Papa, for monetary help. Every time, he used to give them hoping one day or the other, his son will come back with the good news. Every Monday morning, I go to bangalore, hoping that one or the other company will accept my resume atleast, forget about the written test or the interview.I roam around the streets of bangalore for 5 days, looking for opputrunities and back at my hometown during the weekends. Hey guys, i forgot to mention you about the hospitality I got at my aunts place. Eventhough,I felt strange to stay at her place, she treated me as her son and gave me my mothers love. Everyday, i used to leave her place in the morning and at the end of the day, I come back , she was there waiting for me to say..Dont worry....keep trying..Dont lose hopes.

One fine day, during the month of March 2001, I met my old friend (name not to be disclosed ) who was in a respectable position in one of the manufacturing industry in my home town. I shared all my good and bad days with him and said "PLzz get me a job, any job which suited my qualification". He was listening to me so patiently that i totally forgot that am speaking to my friend. After a weeks time, I get a call from him . I went to his place assuming that I might get a good news of getting a job. Later, when he started speaking to me casually, he said one sentence which I cant forget even now " If wishes were horses, beggars would ride ". I did not realize the meaning of the sentence at that instance.

While on my way back home, i was thinking, Why did he tell this and whats the meaning behind this. Then after a couple of days i realised the meaning and I started treating as my mentor. I felt that he was a God in disguise to me. Since then, every weekend, I was at his place, just to share his thoughts and his positive message, which really filled in me, the lost hopes of getting job.

After a month or 2, he gave me a confidence that he will create a temporary post for me for a period of 6 months. During this period, my work,my behavior and my punctuality will be observed and based on the feedback to the management I was assured to be absorbed into the company. He also said , during this period, I would be given all th facilities in the company, that a regular employee gets, but not the salary. ie . I was supposed to work there free of cost. The next moment I said, FRIEND, you have given me a platform to survive. Its my duty to prove that your trust on me did not go in vein. My parents and my sister were the happiest ones when I said, I am going to work from so and so date.

Trust me friends, he is one person in my life, whom I still respect at the same level I respect my parents.

When I started meeting my FRIEND, there were lots of things I learnt from him.

Try to get more and more contacts with good people. This will help you in your career growth. With these contact, whenever people come to you for help on career and projects, help them as much as possible. They should not face the same problem as you faced. Also, dont expect anything from anyone and feel that you are helping the society and your brother andsisters.

Patience is the one thing which you need to practise in life. what ever it is, be patience. listen to what people say, analyse their words, dont act on anything without thinking of the situation.

Always, keep smiling. Let others know that you are the happiest man in the world. In the meantime, think of ways to solve all of your problem.

Now, I might be in a better position and in a good company. But, each time, when I am disturbed, I sit in a dark place and recollect those days where my path was full of thorns and where I felt I was all alone. Now, I have earned a lots of good friends and i feel proud that I can approach them at anytime for technical help or on career front.
